About us
In he summer of 1975, several Sheffield based bus enthusiasts decided to preserve one of the few remaining traditional "half Cab" front engined vehicles, which were in the process of being withdrawn by the South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive.
At that time, there were various different types left operating in the city. By a process of elimination one variant was decided on, a vehicle selected and eventually purchased for preservation. This was "AEC Alexander" 874.
We took our name from the vehicles chassis and body manufacturers: The Associated Equipment Company (AEC) of Southall in Middlesex, and Walter Alexander & Sons of Falkirk, Scotland. Whilst AEC was originally absorbed by British Leyland in 1979, Alexander Dennis (As it is now known) remains a leading bus manufacturer.
We are a body of around 40 people, ,from various age ranges and walks of life. Our common purpose is the continued preservation of 7874 WJ, in a roadworthy and presentable condition, for all to enjoy.
874 is garaged at the South Yorkshire Transport Trust's
